PASSENGER FERRY TERMINALVictoria, British ColumbiaCHALLENGE: Morrow was contracted by a federal government agency to complete a gap analysis, as part of a human health and ecological risk assessment, of previous work conducted at a passenger ferry terminal in Victoria BC. The results of this gap analysis were used to direct remediation efforts under conditions of limited access, limited space and requiring relocation of key site infrastructure to allow for remediation to proceed. SOLUTION: Morrows review resulted in recommendations to install additional groundwater monitoring wells, and carry out groundwater monitoring to determine groundwater flow gradients and directions at the tidally influenced site. In addition, delineation drilling was completed for an area of soil contamination identified previously. The work identified soils with organic contaminants exceeding Special Waste standards. Based on this work, the client determined that direct remediation of contamination best met their specific needs as opposed to the earlier recommended risk assessment. Morrow developed a remediation plan that considered and managed specific site constraints including:
The work was successfully completed within approved budgets and reported within the short time requirements of the client. |
