MOTOR COACH INDUSTRIES - ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ISO 14001

CHALLENGE: Motor Coach Industries (MCI) of Winnipeg, Manitoba planned to develop and implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) for their North American coach manufacturing operations with a longer-term view to possible registration under the ISO 14001 certification program. The MCI EMS was predicated on a strong Environmental Policy endorsed by senior management which outlined MCI’s commitment to environmental awareness, environmental prudence in all aspects of their operations and a commitment to continuous improvement in their environmental performance.
SOLUTION: Morrow undertook to assist MCI develop an EMS to satisfy the main components of the ISO 14001 Standard. Development of the overall EMS was based on a review and identification of significant environmental aspects of their operations and their potential impacts to the environment. A total of sixteen procedures (programs) were then developed to address and properly manage these environmental aspects and ensure appropriate environmental management and work practices were integrated throughout the MCI operations. The MCI EMS has allowed MCI to systematically address the impacts of their operations on the environment, ensure continual improvement of their environmental performance and support efforts to satisfy all regulatory requirements to ensure full environmental compliance.
