The History of Morrow

Morrow Environmental Consultants Inc. was established in Vancouver, British Columbia during the mid 1980’s as a subsidiary to a consulting engineering firm which specialized in the design of industrial and marine facilities. At that time, environmental legislation regarding contaminated soil and water was coming to the forefront. The main focus was in areas of land transactions involving former industrial sites and the redevelopment of these sites for other uses.

A new firm was created primarily to assist the petroleum and petrochemical industries in the assessment and remediation of their lands. The principals of Morrow worked to develop a client-centered consulting firm by linking our engineers and scientists closely with their individual customers. The goals and objectives were to ensure work was completed on-target, on-budget and on time. These linkages laid the groundwork for continued understanding of our clients needs and expectations.

As a broader range of environmental services was being implemented, the name Morrow Environmental Consultants Inc. was adopted to reflect the dynamic growth of the services performed. In 1992, Morrow expanded into Alberta with the opening of its Calgary office; the Winnipeg, Manitoba office followed in 1993. In 2005, SNC-Lavalin acquired Morrow Environmental Consultants Inc. Morrow is now a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group. Today, Morrow is headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia, with regional offices in Kelowna, Prince George and Victoria British Columbia, Calgary, Alberta, Winnipeg, Manitoba and branch offices throughout Western Canada. The geographic expansion of Morrow within petroleum and petrochemical sectors has been followed by growth into the mining, industrial, government and land development areas. In addition to contaminated site assessment and remediation services, Morrow provides services in the areas of environmental project management, regulatory liaison, human health and ecological risk assessment, environmental effects monitoring, and environmental health and safety compliance monitoring.

Morrow has a staff of over 200 employees. The president is Grant Byers, P.Eng, while key principals include Colin Dunwoody, P.Eng and Lyndon Hanson, P.Geo. The management team’s vision is two-fold: strengthen the ties with existing clients, and expand geographically to better serve our new and our existing customers. At Morrow we continue to be focused on solutions.
