Risk AssessmentMorrow uses the science- and toxicity-based tool of risk assessment to provide human health and ecological risk assessment services that assist our clients in managing or cost-effectively remediating contaminated sites. Risk assessment is a rapidly evolving scientific approach used to complement, or as an alternative to, remediation of contaminated sites that is endorsed by provincial and federal regulatory agencies. Morrow’s risk assessors are recognized as accomplished professionals in the fields of human health and ecological risk assessment, risk management, legal support, and site-specific, risk-based standard/guideline development. Our staff and associates include ecological and human health toxicologists, aquatic and terrestrial ecologists, geochemists, conservation biologists, and geologists. This diversity and our combined experience allows us to address the unique needs of individual projects for clients in the upstream and downstream oil & gas industry, the mining industry, federal and provincial government agencies, law firms, industry associations, and cement production, fertilizer production, and wood treatment companies in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut. Morrow’s risk assessment professionals have conducted screening-level or detailed risk assessments for environmental contaminants including volatile and semi-volatile petroleum hydrocarbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxins/furans, halogenated hydrocarbons (solvents), trace elements and metals, salts and fertilizer by-products, phenols/chlorophenols, glycols, alkanolamines, sulfolane, and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM). Key risk assessment professionals include:Wilfried Staudt, Ph.D., P.Geol., P.Geo., Risk Assessment Team Leader. Willie has a scientific background in geology and geochemistry and has specialized in conducting risk assessments, preparing risk management plans, developing generic and site-specific soil and water quality guidelines, fate and transport behaviour assessment of chemicals, and in providing litigation support, including expert witness testimony. Willie is based in our Calgary, Alberta office (telephone 403-253-4333). Ross Wilson, M.Sc., DABT, is internationally recognized in the area of human health risk assessment. Mr. Wilson has participated in more than 100 risk assessments of contaminated sites and is a board-certified expert in toxicology. Mr. Wilson was project manager and a principal author for a human health risk assessment guidance document completed for Health Canada this document is intended to guide risk assessments of contaminated sites in Canada.
